Doesn't it seem
strange that the founder of the Christian religion never wrote a single
book? Moses wrote several books of the Old Testament that defined
Judaism. Mohammed wrote the Koran that defined Islam. Mary Baker Eddy
wrote Science and Health With Key to the Scriptures and it defined
Christian Science. Writing a book seems to be a requirement for starting
a new religion. Yet, Jesus never wrote a book. He did some
writing one time. It was when the Pharisees brought to him a woman
caught in adultery. They said, "The law and prophets say to stone
her, what do you say? Instead of immediately answering He knelt and
wrote in the sand. In one of my
songs I say, "I think He wrote you can always start again, no
matter who you are or what you've been." But the truth is, no one
knows what he wrote. Isn't it
noteworthy that He didn't say, "Get me some stone so I can write my
solution to this situation on a tablet of stone"? He wrote it in
the sand which washes away quickly. He seems to be saying,
"The truth comes and goes quickly so grab it with your awareness
before the waters and winds of time take it away." My friend Clayton
Bell said to me, "The God of the Old Testament chose to chisel His
words in tables of stone while Jesus chose the fleshly tables of man's
heart and when it comes to our sins the temporary sands of earth." There is great
beauty in Clayton's words and in Jesus' attitude toward writing. He
had full faith in His spoken word because he always went from heart
to heart. No mans words have ever been more circulated. Why didn't He
write out his thoughts? My best guess is he knew if truth didn't go from
heart to heart it would have no life. It's the vitality of speaking
truth to power and of someone feeling the passion in the words. He does write all
the time and our inner being is His writing table. I wrote a song titled
"Jesus Writes Songs, Too." It goes, "Jesus writes songs,
too, He writes his songs on our inner spirit, each song is a personal
symphony for no one else can hear it." If He had written
a book, people would have argued and quibbled about His words just as
they argue over what Matthew, Mark, Luke and John reported Him to say. When He
goes directly from His heart to yours, you know much more than mere
words can ever express. Instead
of getting hung up in a maze of words, listen to His love. He
didn't say, "I have come that you might have my words." He
said, "I have come that you might have my joy." Your sins and
mistakes are written in sand so they can be quickly washed away. The
real truths are spiritual qualities He directly imparts. DR's website
